OxTalks will soon move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events.' There will be a need for an OxTalks freeze. This was previously planned for Friday 14th November – a new date will be shared as soon as it is available (full details will be available on the Staff Gateway).
In the meantime, the OxTalks site will remain active and events will continue to be published.

“Big Data” is a term we have all heard mentioned. It is something that is increasingly crucial to cancer research, and many of the studies supported by Oxford Cancer will use “big data.”
But what does it mean? If we, as a community of people affected by cancer, are to engage in meaningful conversations about big data, or if we are to help researchers explain it, we need to have some understanding of its meanings and its potential. Many of us have concerns or misunderstandings about what big data means and how it is used to further our knowledge of cancer.
In this talk, Professor Eva Morris, Professor of Health Data Epidemiology and Co-Director of the Big Data Institute at the University of Oxford, will talk about why big data is so valuable in cancer research. She will answer some common questions about it, and address common concerns about the safety of our personal information.
The event will be recorded so that it is available to others on the Oxford Cancer website.
