Rodent hepacivirus infection in laboratory rat mirrors Hepatitis C virus persistence, immunity and pathogenesis

Dr. Kapoor is involved in the health relevance of virome dynamics and development of surrogate models for human viruses. His work has led to the identification of non-primate homologs of Hepatitis C virus, including the well-known equine and rodent hepaciviruses. Recently he has been characterizing the biological properties of these new HCV-like animal viruses using in vitro and reverse genetic systems, paving the way for their detailed in vivo characterization.
