Oxford Events, the new replacement for OxTalks, will launch on 16th March. From now until the launch of Oxford Events, new events cannot be published or edited on OxTalks while all existing records are migrated to the new platform. The existing OxTalks site will remain available to view during this period.
From 16th, Oxford Events will launch on a new website: events.ox.ac.uk, and event submissions will resume. You will need a Halo login to submit events. Full details are available on the Staff Gateway.
This talk examines the depiction of work in a range of contemporary novels set in the near future. It focuses in particular on the role that art plays as a utopian model for desirable and worthwhile work, and how this is bound up with the challenge of collectivity in an era of global crises.
David Sergeant is Associate Professor in Twentieth and Twenty-First Century Literature at the University of Plymouth, and from 2018 to January 2020 was an AHRC ECR Leadership Fellow. His is currently writing a monograph on fictions of the near future; he is also the author of two collections of poetry.
