OxTalks will soon move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events.' There will be a need for an OxTalks freeze. This was previously planned for Friday 14th November – a new date will be shared as soon as it is available (full details will be available on the Staff Gateway).
In the meantime, the OxTalks site will remain active and events will continue to be published.
If staff have any questions about the Oxford Events launch, please contact halo@digital.ox.ac.uk
We will conclude a successful term of the Southern Africa Discussion Group with a roundtable discussion. The session brings together academics who use innovative approaches to studying the region’s social and political history through oral narratives. Jocelyn Alexander will present on liberation army social history through her work on and with war veterans in Zimbabwe. Simukai Chigudu will discuss the making of his upcoming family memoir Chasing Freedom, which engages personal narrative to reflect on the history and legacies of empire. Dan Hodgkinson will speak about his oral historical work on university student activism in Zimbabwe in an era of African decolonisation. The speakers will discuss how they approach their work, how they have chosen to use sources, and some challenges they have wrestled with in studying these histories.
They will be in conversation with Lena Reim and Ila Axelrod.
