Policy responses to the United States overdose crisis: successes and unintended challenges

This talk will present international data on overdose trends, discuss the sources of the rise in overdose in the United States, and present evidence on the impact of leading drug policies implemented in the United States to address the overdose crisis, including laws that regulate opioid prescribing and laws that reduce harms associated with opioid use. The talk will also discuss current findings on the impact of cannabis legalisation, a potential substitute for opioids, on the overdose crisis in the United States.
