Can anti-aging technologies restore immune function and protect us from COVID-19? Including an intimate Q and A with Dr Aubrey de Grey.
People are living longer – no longer because of reduced child mortality, but because we are postponing the ill-health of old age. But we’ve seen nothing yet: regenerative medicine and other new medicines will eventually be so comprehensive that people will stay truly youthful however long they live, which means they may mostly live very long indeed. I will discuss both the biology and the sociology of what will be the most momentous advance in the history of civilisation. I will specifically address what the current pandemic, and society’s response to it, tells us about opportunities to influence public policy in the interests of hastening rejuvenation research.
Dr. de Grey is a biomedical gerontologist and CSO of the SENS Research Foundation. He received his BA in computer science and Ph.D. in biology from the University of Cambridge. He is the author of the best-selling book, ‘Ending Aging’, and is a highly sought-after speaker with millions of views online.
This talk is hosted by the Oxford Society of Ageing and Longevity and the Oxford University Scientific Society.
