Why do people experience uncontrollable worry – and what can we do about it?

ABSTRACT
In this talk Dr Meeten will discuss experimental approaches to exploring the mechanisms that underpin pathological worry. She will consider how improving our understanding of these mechanisms can provide novel targets for intervention.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr Meeten is a Clinical Psychologist Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London. She is an Honorary Clinical Psychologist at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust where she works at the Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma. She completed her D.Phil. at the University of Sussex using experimental techniques to examine the cognitive mechanisms that underpin anxiety. She went on to train as a clinical psychologist (D.Clin.Psych.) at King’s College London. Her research examines the mechanisms that underpin the development and maintenance of anxiety and mood disorders and explores how these mechanisms can be targeted in treatment.
