During her PhD, Jemma investigated the role of microRNAs in tumour associated macrophages which was funded by CRUK. Her lectureship focuses on the use of miRNAs as biomarkers in the early detection of ovarian cancer. Jemma is also a final year Medical Oncology Registrar with a subspeciality interest in gynaecological malignancies and a co-investigator on several clinical trials including investigating the use of a folate receptor alpha ADC in platinum sensitive ovarian cancer. Jemma has presented her research both nationally and internationally this year at ASCO and Keystone and has been recognised for excellence in public engagement at the University of Southampton. She has two daughters aged 2 and 5 and is passionate about promoting gender equality across all levels of academia, becoming a member of the Athena Swan committee at Southampton to help drive this forward.
