Memory, Meaning and Human Identity: The place of theology in constructing the purpose of age in the light of dementia?

As we contemplate what old age might have in store for us they can be no greater fear than the possibility of losing our memory. Modernity may have offered us longevity but at some threat to our well-being and flourishing. This paper will explore some of the theological issues raised by dementia: personhood and identity, mind and memory, body and soul and what it is that we value in human life.
