ONLINE: Effective climate policy: what does it look like?

Effective climate action relies on a robust system of research, policymaking, and advocacy working together. We can’t simply implement more climate policy, we need well-considered, evidence-based policies that are strategically mixed and have public support so we can make it work for people and the planet.

In this seminar, we invited Anupama Sen and Johnny Stengel to explore the complex world of climate policy, highlighting the interplay between research, policymaking, and advocacy.

They will discuss how research complex scientific findings can be turned into actionable, accessible information for both policymakers and the public. They will use the recently published paper “Climate policies that achieved major emission reductions: Global evidence from two decades” as a basis for talking about the importance of translating complex scientific findings into actionable, accessible information for both policymakers and the public.
They will also discuss the crucial roles played by both researchers and activists in driving effective climate action.

Oxford Climate Econometrics research published the paper “Climate policies that achieved major emission reductions: Global evidence from two decades” which provides the first global, systematic evaluation identifying which combinations of policy instruments have led to large emissions reductions out of 1,500 climate policies implemented between 1999-2022 across 41 countries and six continents.
The research is based on a ground-breaking new method, has been widely covered in the media including in the Financial Times.
