Usability testing: do it yourself

Are you thinking about usability testing for your projects? Perhaps you develop software, or interfaces for web sites or research tools? In this course you will learn how to get feedback from users including how to facilitate sessions, develop test plans, analyse data, and present the findings. We will look at the principles of human visual perception and design and provide a brief overview of research methods in user experience design (UX). You will learn to: use UX metrics and quantitative usability studies to measure the effectiveness of your designs; plan, conduct, and analyse your own studies; organize and structure information to help users find what they need; use UX terminology and how to set up tasks; report the results in a meaningful way. This course is open to academic researchers who wish to develop user interfaces, IT/Web developers or anyone who wants to learn about usability in more depth.
