On 28th November OxTalks will move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events' (full details are available on the Staff Gateway).
There will be an OxTalks freeze beginning on Friday 14th November. This means you will need to publish any of your known events to OxTalks by then as there will be no facility to publish or edit events in that fortnight. During the freeze, all events will be migrated to the new Oxford Events site. It will still be possible to view events on OxTalks during this time.

We are delighted to invite you to our sixth event of Hilary 2023, which will take place on Tuesday, February 21, in the Old Library at All Souls College at 8:30pm. As always, there will be a wine reception prior to the event, starting at 8pm. Our speaker this week will be James Miles, a senior The Economist journalist, who will be speaking to us on the topic of “China’s No Limits Ties with Russia: the View from Beijing”
James Miles is currently The Economist China writer-at-large, covering the country’s global impact and internal developments. From 2014 to 2022, he was The Economist‘s China Editor, having previously worked as Beijing Bureau Chief for 13 years.
Before he joined The Economist in 2001, he reported on China for the BBC; as Beijing bureau chief from 1988 to 1994, Hong Kong correspondent from 1995 to 1997 and senior Chinese affairs analyst in London from 1997 to 2000. From 2000 to 2001, he was the editor of Strategic Comments and Research Fellow for Asia at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
Main access to the Old Library is via a steep staircase. Arrangements can be made for those with limited mobility to use a stairlift and a Fellow’s room to gain access. Please let us know at least one day in advance if you require this type of assistance. Capacity is limited so please arrive early.
A £2 fee for attendance is kindly requested for all non-members of OUSSG. If you need to renew your membership, you can do so on our website or at the door.
