International Women's Day Academic Panel (Hybrid event)

Hatfield MCR are proud to present an academic panel discussing the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, ‘Inspire Inclusion,’ from 17:00 to 18:30 on Monday 11 March in the Birley Room, Hatfield College, Durham University. There will be the opportunity for people to join us online via Zoom. We will be hearing from academics across different disciplines who specialise in gender & sexuality studies.

Tea, coffee & biscuits will be provided.

While this event provides an open space for the critical and civil exchange of ideas, the content of the discussion may be upsetting and/or triggering for some. We aim to forewarn attendees about potentially disturbing content at the beginning and ask for everyone to help create an atmosphere of mutual respect and sensitivity. People are welcome to leave the room and re-enter at any time if they find aspects of the conversation triggering.

Our speakers include:

  • Professor Geetanjali Gangoli from the Department of Sociology at Durham University. She works in the field of gender-based violence in the UK and India, looking at the intersecting roles of class, ethnicity, gender, sexuality and disability on the perpetuation and prevention of abuse. • Dr Yarí Pérez Marín from the School of Modern Languages and Culture at Durham University. Her main areas of research include contemporary Latin American cinema & media, and early modern Hispanic literature & culture, in which she looks at issues linked to gender & sexuality.
