Finding estimates for pupil characteristics not directly measured in the National Pupil Database

Using the NPD to answer education questions that weren’t asked in the underlying administrative data. I will discuss two projects that set out to answer ‘impossible’ questions: 1. What are the educational outcomes of refugee and asylum-seeking children? 2. How many children experience ‘off-rolling’ from secondary school? Neither status is collected in the data but we used narrowing strategies and probability-weighted analysis to begin answering these questions.
