Putin's War: Narratives, Mobilisation, and Perceptions

We are delighted to invite you to our first event of Michaelmas 2022, which will take place on October 11 (Tuesday) at 20:30 in the Old Library, All Souls College. As always, there will be a wine reception prior to the event at 20:00.

Arkady Ostrovsky is Russia and Eastern Europe editor for The Economist. Prior to this role, he was the Moscow bureau chief for The Economist reporting on the annexation of Crimea and the war in Ukraine. He joined The Economist in March 2007 after 10 years with the Financial Times, where he covered Russian politics and business, including the Yukos affair. His articles were among the first to warn of the resurgence of the security state under Putin. He is the author of the 2016 Orwell Prize winning book The Invention of Russia: The Journey from Gorbachev’s Freedom to Putin’s War.

We will be hosting a dinner with the speaker before the event. The dinner is at 6.15pm at Quod, 92-94 High St. If you would like to ballot for a spot, please email secretary@oussg.uk by Sunday evening. Those selected will receive an email the following day. Please note that dinner attendees are required to pay for their own meals.

If you need to renew your membership, you can do so on our website (www.oussg.uk) or at the door.
Please note that the main access to the Old Library is via a steep staircase. Arrangements can be made for those with limited mobility to use a stairlift and a Fellow’s room to gain access. Please let us know at least one day in advance if you require this type of assistance.

We look forward to seeing you there!
