OxTalks will soon move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events.' There will be a need for an OxTalks freeze. This was previously planned for Friday 14th November – a new date will be shared as soon as it is available (full details will be available on the Staff Gateway).
In the meantime, the OxTalks site will remain active and events will continue to be published.
If staff have any questions about the Oxford Events launch, please contact halo@digital.ox.ac.uk
Please join the Department of Social Policy and Intervention for the 2023 Sidney Ball Memorial Lecture. We are delighted to welcome this year’s speaker Professor Silja Häusermann for the lecture ‘Inclusion or Segmentation – The Politics of Welfare Reform in 21st Century Western Europe’. The event will be held in-person at St John’s College, Oxford.
Silja Häusermann is the Professor of Political Science at the Department of Political Science, University of Zurich.
The lecture is based on Professor Häusermann’s forthcoming book which studies political conflict over the provision of public welfare in the early 21st century, identifying structural and coalitional opportunities for reform across policy fields and regional contexts.
The annual Sidney Ball Memorial lecture was instituted by Barnett House and named in 1920 after the first chairman of the Barnett House Committee, Sidney Ball. The event brings a distinguished speaker to Oxford every autumn to discuss key themes in social policy and intervention and it continues to be a highlight of the department’s calendar.
The lecture will take place in the Garden Quad Auditorium from 5-6pm, with an opportunity for connecting afterwards at a drinks reception from 6-7pm.
*Please allow 10+ mins to reach the auditorium from the Porter’s Lodge prior to the start of the lecture.
