Regional flood events often have more severe impacts than localized events. However, the spatial dimension of floods is often neglected when deriving flood hazard estimates. The aim of this talk is therefore threefold: (1) to improve our process understanding of spatial flood dependencies, (2) to propose a stochastic simulation approach for spatial extremes, and (3) to derive regional flood hazard estimates for the United States.
About the Speaker
Dr. Manuela I. Brunner is a hydrologist interested in hydrological extremes and in changes to water resources. She is currently a post-doc the National Center of Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, CO, USA. Recently she conducted water scarcity research at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL. Her PhD is from the Universities of Zurich and Grenoble-Alpes, and her undergraduate work was in Geography and Climate Science at the University of Bern.
