OxTalks will soon move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events.' There will be a need for an OxTalks freeze. This was previously planned for Friday 14th November – a new date will be shared as soon as it is available (full details will be available on the Staff Gateway).
In the meantime, the OxTalks site will remain active and events will continue to be published.
If staff have any questions about the Oxford Events launch, please contact halo@digital.ox.ac.uk

“From Research to Policy: Nuts and Bolts of Effective Communication,” features two editors from Nature Portfolio’s magazine editorial, who will share their expertise and insights on scientific research and impactful commentary and opinion.
The ability to communicate complex research in a clear, compelling way is an essential skill for today’s researchers. In a free-wheeling conversation, Subhra Priyadarshini and Ehsan Masood will dive into the strategies and techniques that turn scientific findings into persuasive, accessible narratives for diverse audiences — from policymakers to the public.
Key topics will include: * Crafting evidence-backed arguments * The importance of explaining technical concepts without losing meaning * Knowing your audience * Tailoring content for different platforms.
Attendees will also gain valuable tips on pitching research-based opinion articles to media outlets and how to think about and structure policy-relevant articles that are useful to decision-makers.
The discussion will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
Whether you’re a researcher aiming to broaden the impact of your work, a policymaker looking to engage researchers, or a communicator seeking to improve how you incorporate research, this event will offer you practical tools to bridge the gap between research and its communication.
The event is brought to you by OICSD in collaboration with Nature Portfolio, The ZERO Institute – University of Oxford – and the Oxford Climate Research Network (OCRN).
