OxTalks will soon move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events.' There will be a need for an OxTalks freeze. This was previously planned for Friday 14th November – a new date will be shared as soon as it is available (full details will be available on the Staff Gateway).
In the meantime, the OxTalks site will remain active and events will continue to be published.
If staff have any questions about the Oxford Events launch, please contact halo@digital.ox.ac.uk
CANCELLED DUE TO STRIKE ACTION.
This seminar will now take place in Trinity Term 2020.
Fieldwork is a rewarding and exciting experience but it also has difficulties. This seminar will reflect on the challenges and opportunities for managing well-being in fieldwork. There will be a particular focus on protecting mental health pre- post- and during fieldwork. Early career fieldworkers, including students, are encouraged to attend.
Speakers
Maureen Freed is a psychotherapeutic counselor with specialism in wellbeing in qualitative research. She is interested in developing strategies for researchers to avoid and recover from vicarious trauma.
Shona Loong is a DPhil student in the School of Geography and the Environment. She will offer personal and professional reflections on how she managed her well-being in an extended field visit to Myanmar.
Everyone is welcome and a sandwich lunch will be provided.
This event is part of the SoGE Fieldworkers Network lunchtime seminar series
The SoGE Fieldworkers Network was established in 2019 to support and connect fieldworkers in the department. The network hosts a lunchtime seminar series and actively assists early career fieldworkers with planning and welfare in fieldwork.
