Oxford Events, the new replacement for OxTalks, will launch on 16th March. The two-week OxTalks freeze period starts on Monday 2nd March. During this time, there will be no facility to publish or edit events. The existing OxTalks site will remain available to view during this period. Dr Tolulope Osayomi is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography at the University of Ibadan, specializing in spatial epidemiology, spatial demography, global health, and the geography of pandemics. With a PhD in Medical Geography, his research focuses on the intersection of disease, health, and African society. At the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Dr Osayomi founded and led the COVID-19 Mapping Lab at the University of Ibadan, significantly enhancing the geovisualization and public understanding of the pandemic in Nigeria and Africa.
Currently, Dr Osayomi is an AfOx-TORCH Visiting Fellow at the Centre for the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology, Faculty of History, University of Oxford. His project at Oxford, “Deconstructing the African COVID-19 Paradox: African Voices in Global Health,” seeks to challenge Western-centric notions of Africa and global health narratives by highlighting African resilience and perspectives during the pandemic.
