- Anti-racism and geography education What might it mean to ‘decolonise’ geography teaching in English schools and why might anti-racist and decolonial pedagogies and content be central to such a project? In this talk, our speakers discuss their findings from an analysis of national curriculum documents and examination specifications, which demonstrate a striking absence of content looking at race and racism in geography schooling. Yet, leading pedagogical approaches like powerful knowledge and cultural literacy both show the need for school geography to be informed by a more expansive understanding of the discipline as well as the urgent need for anti-racist geographies. Amber and Steve conclude by reflecting on anti-racist curriculum futures in England. Dr Amber Murrey (SoGE),
Dr Steven Puttick (Department of Education)
